Joe Alwyn was a trending topic on social media late Monday, as fans were quick to mention Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend in comparing him to Ariana Grande’s estranged husband Dalton Gomez amid news of the pop star’s separation.

The theme in many of the posts was that Gomez, a 27-year-old real estate agent, like Alwyn, a 32-year-old actor, was ultimately ill-equipped to deal with the high-profile lifestyle that accompanies being the significant other of an A-list popstar.

News broke of Grande, 30, splitting Monday – with a source close to the celeb couple telling DailyMail.com that ‘the marriage just simply didn’t work out’ – more than three months after Swift parted with Alwyn in April following a six-year romance.

Sources told TMZ that Grande’s massive fame hampered the relationship, citing her hectic schedule taking her to international locales, and the ubiquity of the paparazzi.

‘They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during Reputation,’ an insider told People at the time. ‘Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way.

‘But he didn’t really “know” her yet outside of that bubble.’

One fan cited text from the TMZ report about Grande, asking, ‘Question for joe alwyn and dalton gomez: do u REALLY not know how famous ur partner is?’

Another fan said that Alwyn and Gomez ‘knew exactly who they were dating before they got serious with their partners,’ adding, ‘stop dating famous women and getting mad they’re famous idk.’

Another observer noted that the former beaus of the respective pop starlets had a difficult time adjusting coming out of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘Joe Alwyn and Dalton Gomez when the Pandemic ended: what do you mean you’re a mega pop star with millions of fans? Why didn’t you tell me? That’s so inconvenient for our relationship!!’ the user said.

One fan said they were ‘so angry’ on behalf of Grande and Swift for what they had to endure in the relationships.

Alwyn and Gomez ‘got into relationships with two of the most successful women in the world, and they expected them to change themselves and their career for them,’ the fan said. ‘My God you men are so f***ing scary and awful.’
