Money expert Rebecca Pike said many people had no choice but to take on a second job to keep their heads above water.

“The cost of living crisis means many are in financial difficulty and are finding it difficult to pay rising insurance and utility bills,” she said.

Ms. Pike recommended finding ways to increase your income without having to take on a second job, which can be a big responsibility.

“From renting out equipment you don’t use at home to renting out a spare room or advertising your skills on AirTasker, side hustles can be a great way to make some extra money,” she shared 9News.

‘This way you can choose when you work.’

It comes after Airtasker revealed the 10 most common side hustles of 2023, as more and more people use the app to earn a second income.

The most sought-after jobs were moving jobs that paid an average of $168, followed by residential cleaning jobs that paid an average of $182.

Handyman jobs ranked number three, paying an average of $303, followed by gardening/lawn mowing ($194) and furniture assembling ($169).

Waste collection was also a popular job at Airtasker ($156), followed by painting services ($668) and freelance mechanic jobs ($251).

This was followed by pick-up and delivery services ($135 for an average job) and plumbing – which could earn someone up to $261.
