Sunbury, Melbourne: Teens allegedly broke into homes armed with machetes before leading police on high-speed car chase

Three teenagers who forced their way into two houses armed with machetes before stealing a car have been arrested after a wild police chase.

Police said three perpetrators armed with machetes committed two house burglaries and an attempted carjacking in Mickleham at around 6.30am. No one was injured in the attacks.

The three teenagers were chased by police as they drove an allegedly stolen Nissan Pathfinder through Wyndham Vale, Werribee and suburbs in Melbourne’s northwest, reaching speeds of up to 200km/h.

The chase, which involved 12 police cars and a helicopter, ended in the Sunbury Square Shopping Center car park at around 10am.

“The three occupants exited the vehicle outside a shopping center where they were arrested by officers from the Critical Incident Response Team with assistance from Air Wing,” police said.

Police said a 16-year-old Wyndham Vale boy, a 15-year-old Ivanhoe girl and a 15-year-old Windsor girl were in custody.

Louisa, a shopper at Sunbury Square Shopping Centre, gave live details of the teenager’s arrest on radio station 3AW.

“Looks like they have someone on the ground. They have someone in handcuffs,” she said.

‘One is on the ground in handcuffs, they have zip ties around him and further down the road there is another one on the gutter.’

She said about 20 police officers were on the scene and more were on their way, while police helicopters circled overhead to find the abandoned SUV.
