Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin presides over 263rd Conference of Rulers meeting

Headquartered in the Istana Negara, the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, presided over the 263rd Meeting of the Conference of Rulers today, October 27. The agenda included the election of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and his deputy. Attending the special conference were all the Malay Rulers, apart from those of Kelantan and Perlis, including Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The proceedings, which began at 10:10 am, were attended by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar; Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah; Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah; Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir; and Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah. All the attending rulers posed for a group photograph, marking their arrival before the commencement of the meeting and the election process.

The special meeting concluded approximately an hour later. The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal is predicted to reveal the election results later today. The need for this extraordinary meeting arose due to the impending conclusion of Al-Sultan Abdullah’s reign as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which is scheduled to end on January 30 of the forthcoming year.

Al-Sultan Abdullah was inaugurated as the federal ruler on January 31, 2019, following his election as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Conference of Rulers’ special meeting that took place on January 24, in the same year.
