A series of signs have been placed in a Sydney park asking visitors not to ‘poo’ in the park.
The signs were installed this week by the City of Ryde around Outlook Park in Eastwood, in the city’s northwest, after several incidents were reported.
The municipality asked residents to ‘respect our neighbors and not defecate in the park’.
Images of the signs quickly spread across social media as people debated the reasons why the sign was necessary.

Social media users were both perplexed and ‘sad’ that people had defecated in the public park.
“What sane person would poop in a suburban park?” one user asked.
“How often does this happen that they had to create official signage?” posted a second.
Other users theorized who could have been desperate enough to answer the call of the wild in the parks.
“I heard it’s the runners who get the s***s and have to let it go while they do their morning run,” one Reddit user wrote.
Another user said it may have been people in the park who had to take a different approach at night because the public toilets in nearby Eastwood or Darvall Park were closed.

However, many said the signs wouldn’t do much to control poop in the park because someone in such a situation would simply ignore them.
“Nobody about to take a *** in the park is going to change their mind because of this sign,” one user wrote on Instagram.
“(I) guess if you’re so degenerate that you’d fuck in a public park, a sign won’t make a difference,” another wrote.
A spokesperson for the City of Ryde said the signs were installed after a number of incidents were reported to the council.
“The council installed the signs as a temporary measure after being made aware of several cases of fecal and toilet paper spills in Outlook Park,” the spokesperson said.
