The crash site was in front of a car wash shop on the inbound route to Nakhon Ratchasima, between kilometre markers 227 and 228 on Highway 205, Suranaree Road. Police found a bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck, bearing license plate number กพ 9699 Nakhon Ratchasima, that had veered off the road, hitting shrubs on the sidewalk before slamming into a utility pole.

The vehicle was overturned with its wheels facing upwards and its front end severely damaged. The deceased driver, identified as 56 year old Pichai, was discovered trapped inside the wreckage.

Rescue volunteers used hydraulic cutters to extricate the body, which showed severe injuries and multiple fractures. The remains were transported to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for an autopsy, reported KhaoSod.

Investigations revealed that Pichai worked at R.V. Pool & Spa, a company specialising in swimming pool construction and home repairs. He was driving alone, heading back to his residence within Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality. CCTV footage showed the vehicle speeding before the self-inflicted accident, which is presumed to have been caused by driver error.
