Speculations rife about ABC6 news anchor Jackie Orozco’s potential departure

Renowned news anchor Jackie Orozco from Good Day Columbus on ABC6 News and FOX 28 may soon be packing her bags, according to recent speculations. A regular face on the morning show since 2017, Orozco is a recipient of the coveted Emmy Award for her exceptional reporting in 2022. Despite these whispers about her departure, the anchor remains tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying her future plans.

Orozco’s Journey at WSYX6
Jackie Orozco’s association with WSYX6 began in October 2017, following a successful four-year stint as a reporter and anchor at FOX35 in Orlando. During her tenure there, she reported on multiple high-profile events, including Hurricanes Matthew and Irma, the Pulse nightclub shooting, and the second annual Invictus Games.

At WSYX6, Orozco not only co-anchors Good Day Columbus’ weekend morning show alongside Maria Durant but also contributes to weekday reports. She is known for her commitment to keeping viewers informed about local and global happenings.

In July 2022, she was awarded an Emmy for her report on an 8-year-old boy from Clintonville who received a response from President Biden to his letter. The report was submitted under the “Societal Concerns” category.

Possible Future Directions For Orozco
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Orozco may be considering a shift to another network or market to explore new professional avenues. Potential destinations include CNN, where her husband Rodney Dunigan serves as a national correspondent.

Orozco began her prolific journalism career as an intern at KABC-TV, a stepping stone to her successful career trajectory. Rodney Dunigan, who joined CNN in 2019, previously worked with Orozco as a reporter and anchor at ABC6 News. The couple share two children, Alexandria (born 2018) and Blake (born 2020).

Another possibility could see Orozco return to her roots in Los Angeles, where she launched her journalism career. A graduate from California State University Northridge, Orozco holds a degree in broadcast journalism and Spanish. Her resume also includes roles as a reporter and anchor at KFOX-TV in El Paso, Texas, and KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas.

Update on Orozco’s Recent Accident
In November 2023, Orozco was involved in an unfortunate car accident near downtown Columbus. She was driving her SUV when another vehicle, reportedly ignoring a red light, collided with her. Orozco sustained minor injuries, was treated at a nearby hospital, and was later discharged, expected to recover fully.

The other vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old woman, alleged to be under the influence of alcohol, who was declared dead at the accident scene. Her grandfather, who was accompanying her in the car, described the incident as “a horrible accident”. He mistakenly believed she was an intruder who had broken into his house the previous night.

Following the accident, Orozco took to Facebook to express her gratitude for the support and prayers from her fans. She acknowledged that she was “blessed to be alive” and extended her wishes for peace and comfort to the bereaved family.
