Sophie Ellis-Bextor has managed to climb to the top of the Spotify charts in the United States after her hit was featured in Netflix’s new controversial film Saltburn.

In the Golden Globe-nominated film, Sophie’s 22-year-old hit single Murder On The Dancefloor resurfaced in one of the final scenes of the thriller-comedy.

The popular movie stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob ElordiRosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant and is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell.

Sophie shared the great news with her fans and thanked viewers for playing the song over and over again since the film came out.

She shared a photo of the album on X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “xxxxxx thank you!”

The film follows a seemingly working-class University of Oxford student from Merseyside, played by Barry, 31, who falls in love with upper class student Felix, played by Jacob, 26.

The song’s second hit comes after Sophie performed her own version of Saltburn’s ending scene to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Sunday.

She looked stunning in a multi-coloured sequin dress as she kicked and writhed down the stairs to the beat of the song in a TikTok video.

Sophie spoke to Pink News in November about the use of her song in the film, saying: ‘I really loved the film.

“It’s funny because when you’re asked if a song is involved in something, you always get a little synopsis or a rough idea of the placement. I just thought it was brilliant. It’s so beautifully shot.

The script is bouncy and fun, sharp and witty, and then you get someone dancing completely frontally naked to my song. I can’t wait for more people to see it. It’s quite an unexpected moment.’
