Manchester United’s new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe is facing a difficult situation as he tries to offload £350,000-a-week midfielder Casemiro, reports suggest.

The British billionaire and his company INEOS are set to take over the club’s football operations after his £1.3 billion investment was announced on Christmas Eve.

The club’s new owners are reportedly planning an overhaul of the playing squad as they look to reduce their wage costs.

While Erik ten Hag has claimed he is keen to keep Casemiro, speculation has arisen that the new owner is looking to part ways with the Brazilian. The petrochemicals magnate even questioned United’s decision to sign the 31-year-old from Real Madrid for £60million in the summer of 2022.

His contract with the club expires in 2026, with the club claiming that United could end up paying Casemiro around £30 million in wages if he were to opt out of the remainder of his deal.

The former Real Madrid star shone during his first season at the club but was sidelined for much of the 2023/2024 campaign after suffering an ankle injury while on international duty with Brazil.

He has subsequently not played for United since the 3-0 EFL Cup defeat to Newcastle last November, but has recently returned to training on grass.

Reports have recently claimed that PSG were interested in signing the Man United midfielder.

Meanwhile, United also want to fire a number of other players. Donny van de Beek has agreed a move to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Sergio Reguilon’s move was aborted and he returned to his parent club Tottenham.

Jadon Sancho is another player who could leave the club in January as Borussia Dortmund look for a new striker.

It comes after the attacker was banned from the club by Ten Hag earlier this season after a row with the manager.

According to reports, the Bundesliga team are looking to get a deal over the line so that Sancho can join their training camp in Marbella next week.
