Part of a statement by Netflix said that the agreement was officially signed in February this year, and this was after talks began in October 2021.

This means that some movies and shows that contain matters of homosexuality will be restricted from now onwards.

“After signing the agreement, they (Netflix) are already developing a classification system that is aligned with the local classification standards so that every film on Netflix will be Kenyan ratings once it is in place” KFCB said.

One of the people who however was displeased by the announcement is Kenyan singer Karen Lucas popularly known as Kaz.

Taking to her Instagram stories, the sassy former Tusker Project fame participant wondered why KFCB and Netflix arrived at the decision.

This is because she views it as something that is unfair to people in the LGBTQ community like her, who is a proud lesbian and one that practices polyamory.

“@netflix I don’t understand how a big corporation like yourselves would allow for something so belittling to happen. @kfcbkenya shame on you!” Kaz wrote in part.

The singer further picked a statement from KFCB that said:

“The Kenya Film Classification Board considers LGBTQ-specific content under the ‘restricted’ category that is not allowed for broadcast, exhibition and distribution to the public because it glorifies, normalizes, promotes and propagates homosexuality against the law”.

And further criticized it by saying:

“This is what @kfcbkenya are using…FYI there is true crime category on @netflix and I believe it glorifies murders which is also illegal? Make it make sense!” She said.
