Shohei Ohtani gifts Porsche to wife of Dodgers teammate Joe Kelly after her #Ohtake17 campaign helps persuade the superstar to sign $700m deal

Shohei Ohtani has given a brand new Porsche to Ashley Kelly, the wife of his Dodgers teammate Joe Kelly, after she campaigned to bring him to Los Angeles from the Angels.

The Japanese superstar recently signed the richest contract in sports history, inking a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers.

Ohtani was MLB’s most coveted player before leaving the Angels this season.

The Dodgers won the race for his signature, with Ashley Kelly leading a viral campaign offering her husband’s No. 17 jersey.

She even renamed their seven-month-old son and jokingly changed his name from Kai to ShoKai.

To thank you, Ohtani gave her a lavish Christmas gift. In a video on social media, Ashley is seen looking out her front door after a Porsche appeared on the street.

She was shocked when she was told it was a gift from the Dodgers’ new star. “It’s yours, Shohei’s,” Kelly was told. “He wanted to give you a Porsche as a gift.”

As part of her #Ohtake17 campaign, Kelly showed off the vast amount of Dodgers #17 apparel she owned and explained how Ohtani and his family could customize them for their own use.

Kelly was recently asked if he should retire the number he wore for three seasons.

“I wasn’t going to leave it to anyone,” he told reporters. “If Shohei continues to perform, he will become a future Hall of Famer and I can have my number retired. That’s the closest I’ll get to the Hall of Fame.”

When asked what he wanted in return, Kelly added, “Oh, there’s a list, but no comment.”
