Sheffield United 3-3 Fulham: Six-goal thriller at Bramall Lane sees Blades drop two-point lead for second time this MONTH with Rodrigo Muniz’ spectacular bicycle kick to salvage a late point for Cottagers

Rodrigo Muniz scored a spectacular late equalizer to rescue a point for Fulham and deny Sheffield United victory in a dramatically tense second half.

After a goalless and largely lifeless first half, Ben Brereton Diaz fired the Blades ahead in the 58th minute.

Although the Cottagers soon leveled through Joao Paulhinha’s header, the ubiquitous Brereton Diaz brought on strike partner Oli McBurnie to restore United’s lead and then added a third to make it 3–1.

Euphoria was everywhere at a ground where Wilder’s men had been battered in their three previous home games in the Premier League.

However, Marco Silva’s side came back strongly and substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid made it 3-2 in the 86th minute, before the in-form Muniz grabbed his eighth goal in eight games in the third minute of extra time to seal the to put things on an equal footing.

A 6-0 defeat to Arsenal in their last match at Bramall Lane, which followed successive 5-0 strikes against Aston Villa and Brighton, had left the hosts seriously embarrassed.

Not only for Wilder and his players, but also for the red and white half of a football-obsessed city.

So this was a day for the Blades to hold their own and they certainly did so against Fulham who had won four of their last six Premier League games.

Don’t underestimate how bad Wilder’s side have been in their recent horror shows in front of their own supporters.

This run saw them become the first club in the history of the English league to lose three home games in a row by a margin of five or more goals. Don’t overlook that either.

But on a sun-drenched Bramall Lane, Marco Silva’s upbeat Cottagers struggled to settle against their tenacious hosts.

The Blades fought hard for every ball and showed the kind of collective desire that has been lacking in recent home games.

Chances were few and far between during the first half and the best opening came from Fulham’s Muniz in the 38th minute.

The forward had scored seven goals in his previous seven appearances but his low shot hit a post before firing the rebound over the crossbar.

The first half was completely forgettable, but the match came alive in exciting fashion after the break.

Muniz hit the woodwork for a second time shortly after half-time with a looping header before United’s opener arrived.

McBurnie broke down the left flank and his brilliant low cross was whipped home by Brereton Diaz from six yards out.

Fulham leveled in the 62nd minute when Palhinha headed in Andreas Periera’s corner.

Yet United were undeniable and came back strongly when Brereton Diaz’s neat cutback was tapped in by McBurnie.

That led to a VAR check for a possible red card, but no action was taken and the home stands cheered with joy.

McBurnie fired home a fourth goal for the Blades but his celebration was cut short by a VAR check which ruled out the goal due to offside by home midfielder Vini Souza.

Cottagers replacement Bobby Der Cordova-Reid then fired in via Tom Cairney’s pass to reduce United’s lead moments later.

And then, in the third of fourteen minutes of added time, substitute Adama Traore passed from the right flank and Muniz produced a spectacular right-foot volley from twelve yards that flew into the net.
