Senator Karungo Thang’wa of Kiambu has made shocking claims about the recent impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

During an interview on the Obinna Show Live, Thang’wa asserted that senators were offered bribes to vote for Gachagua’s removal from office.

The allegations surfaced after senators voted overwhelmingly in favor of Gachagua’s ouster on October 17, marking a historic event as he became the first deputy president impeached under the 2010 Constitution.

Thang’wa revealed that a colleague approached him outside the Senate with a bag full of money, suggesting that it would be his if he supported the impeachment.

He described the amount as staggering, saying, “I have never seen such much money. Do you not love money?”

Did Karungo Thang’wa Accept the Bribe?

Despite the temptation, Thang’wa claimed he refused the offer, stating it went against his principles as a leader.

“If you receive money to do injustice, it will come knocking to you,” he said.

He emphasized that he is content with what he has and did not want to compromise his values.

The senator also expressed concern about the Senate’s decision to proceed with the impeachment trial while Gachagua was hospitalized.

He questioned the urgency of the proceedings and argued that the Deputy President should have had a fair chance to defend himself.

Thang’wa’s allegations raise serious questions about the integrity of the impeachment process and the motivations behind the senators’ votes.
