‘Ruto to blame for Cabinet’s failure’- Senator Kajwang

Homa Bay County Senator Moses Kajwang has blamed President William Ruto for the failures of Kenya Kwanza regime.

Speaking on Monday, August 5, 2024, during a televised interview with one of the local TV stations, Kajwang stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration has top leadership problem.

Kajwang on public outrage

Kajwang stated that when the public got outraged about the Cabinet Secretaries as they were before being dismissed, they were pointing fingers at the presidency.

“The problem of the Kenya Kwanza regime has been the problem of leadership and that leadership is the top leadership. Fish rots from the head. When the public is outraged about the Cabinet Secretaries as they were, by extension they are pointing fingers at the presidency,” Kajwang said.

He further took a swipe at president Ruto for always commenting on every subject, including issues that should be delt with by the CSs.

Kajwang on how Ruto fails Cabinet

By the president having opinions on every issue, Kajwang says the Cabinet Secretaries become invisible, leading to their failure.

Should the Cabinet fail at any point, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker says the failure should be shared with the presidency.

“We have a president that is very domineering and you will find that he has an opinion on every subject matter, even issues that should be addressed by Cabinet Secretaries.

“He has been very articulate on housing, health, manufacturing, to an extend that the Cabinet Secretaries become invisible. If then there is failure in the part of the Cabinet, it is a failure that should be shared with the presidency,” Kajwang stated.

Ruto dismisses Cabinet

President Ruto shocked the country when he dissolved the Cabinet sending all Cabinet Secretaries and Attorney General home.

During his presser on July 11, 2024, President Ruto confirmed that his decision did not affect his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

His decision came after persistent anti-government protests that were threatening to bring down his administration.

“Upon reflection, listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after a holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges, I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya except the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affair,” Ruto remarked.

However, the Head of State announced another Cabinet, in which he featured a few faces that were in his dismissed Cabinet.

Vetting of the new Cabinet was concluded on Sunday, August 4, 2024, with the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments expected to table a report on the process on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, to pave way for appointments.
