RUTO MOVES DUALE TO ENVIRONMENT AND TUYA TO DEFENCE IN CABINET CHANGE

President William Ruto has reshuffled his Cabinet nominees.

Aden Duale, previously nominated for the Defence Ministry, has been reassigned to the Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Ministry.

While Soipan Tuya, initially slated for the Environment Ministry, will now head the Defence Ministry.

The changes were announced to Parliament on Tuesday afternoon by Speaker Moses Wetangula.

All other Cabinet nominations remain as announced by the President.

Aden Duale Reacts

In response to the unexpected reassignment, Duale posted on his X account:

“I am Grateful to President @WilliamsRuto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts.”

He also quoted the Quran, saying: “Indeed, ‘And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows, but you do not know.’ – Quran 2:216.”

Soipan Tuya Reacts

Soipan Tuya, who once infamously sued her estranged husband, also reacted to the reassignment through an X statement:

“Eternally grateful to God for His favor! I thank HE President @WilliamsRuto for nominating me to serve as Cabinet Secretary Defence.. Upon confirmation, I will give it my all, in service to the people of Kenya.”

Cabinet Secretaries Fresh Vetting

Speaker Wetangula confirmed that all Cabinet nominees, including those reappointed, will undergo fresh vetting.

“The record that has arrived in this House is what I have read to you. Nobody will become Minister until and unless the President has written to Parliament, until Parliament has sat in Committee and vetted and until the Whole House has voted on the report of the vetting Committee,” Wetangula said.
