When he got the job, Robert said he was “honored” to host with Julie and described it as a “full circle” moment.

He also told how he decided to take the job to continue the legacy of his famous father Steve Irwin, who tragically passed away when Robert was just three years old.

“I love that I have a real purpose and legacy to carry on from my family, and from my father in particular, and I get to create my own purpose – of conservation, of fun, of passion and positivity,” he said.

‘And no show does it better than I’m A Celebrity when it comes to just fun, family, positive, let’s give it a try. Moreover, every participant works for a good cause.’

Robert beat out big names Sam Pang, Jimmy Rees, Curtis Stone, Beau Ryan and Tristan MacManus for the hosting role.

“The only thing I thought, ‘mmm, I have to change this’ was eating African wildlife… I’m a conservationist through and through,” he said on KIIS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show .

“They changed it, so we’re just doing the cow, the chicken, the fish and the cockroach… but it’s cool because we can really take this to a whole new level.”

Robert went on to say that Australia Zoo ‘does a lot of conservation work in Africa’ and thought the new season was an opportunity to ‘celebrate’ nature.

The celebrity line-up for the 2024 series of I’m A Celebrity Australia, which kicks off on March 24, has yet to be revealed, but fans are already speculating about who will get to enter the jungle.
