Women’s rights activist and former college swimmer Riley Gaines is one of 16 female athletes who have filed a lawsuit against the National Collegiate Athletics Association.
‘It is official!’ Gaines posted on X on Thursday.
“I am suing the NCAA, along with fifteen other collegiate athletes who have lost titles, records and roster spots to men pretending to be women. The NCAA continues to explicitly violate Title IX federal civil rights law.”
“It’s about time someone did something about it.”
The federal lawsuit, the first of its kind, centers on Lia Thomas, the trans athlete who won the 2022 NCAA swimming championships as a student at the University of Pennsylvania, as reported by The Free Press.

The federal lawsuit, the first of its kind, centers on Lia Thomas, the trans athlete who won the 2022 NCAA swimming championships as a student at the University of Pennsylvania.
It claims Thomas’ victory in the event was a violation of Title IX, which gives women the right to equal opportunity in sports.
The lawsuit asks the NCAA to change its rules to make biological males ineligible to compete against female athletes and to recall all prizes awarded to trans athletes in women’s competitions and give them to their female contenders .
Additionally, the lawsuit seeks “damages for pain and suffering, mental and emotional distress, suffering and anxiety, expenses and other damages resulting from Defendants’ wrongful conduct.”
