RefCam footage of Crystal Palace’s victory over Manchester United has been released.

Referee Jarred Gillett made history during Monday’s match at Selhurst Park when he entered the pitch with a head-mounted camera in a first for the Premier League, agreed by both clubs, the International Football Association Board and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited with the one-off.

The footage captured was not included during the live broadcast of the match as it will be included in a program designed to ‘provide further insight and education into the demands of Premier League performance’ at a later date time will be broadcast.

However, some clips taken from the RefCam during the match have since been shown online, including the referee’s decision to deny Palace a penalty.

After receiving a pass from Eberechi Eze, Tyrick Mitchell skips past Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro and drives towards the United goal.

Mitchell’s run comes to an abrupt end after he collides with Jonny Evans, leading to criminal charges from the Palace players.

Gillett, however, is having none of it, and on the clip he can be heard immediately remarking after the collision: “No, no, no way. He came across it for me. The attacker runs into Evans. That’s how I read it.’

The video assistant referee then informs Gillet that VAR is checking for a possible penalty, before immediately informing him that they were confident no foul had occurred.

Other fascinating excerpts from the footage shown on the website of the Eredivisie Including Gillet who gave pre-match instructions to the captains of both clubs.

“Okay guys, you’re the captains. I expect you to set a good example and manage your players if you can.’ Gillett told this to Casemiro and Joachim Andersen before kick-off.

While Palace would be denied a penalty, Oliver Glasner’s side were in complete control at Selhurst Park.

Michael Olise put the Eagles ahead for 12 minutes before Jean-Philippe Mateta doubled their lead before the break.

Mitchell added a third just before the hour mark before Olise compounded the injury and handed Erik ten Hag one of the most humiliating defeats since joining the club in 2022.

Although Monday’s clash marked the first use in a Premier League match, the concept of officials wearing mounted cameras during matches to give fans a unique perspective is not new.

During a pre-season friendly between Chelsea and Brighton in July, referee Rob Jones wore a camera on his chest as the Blues ran out 4-3 winners in Philadelphia.

A chest-mounted camera was also used during Arsenal’s pre-season clash with the MLS All-Stars, with clips later uploaded online from the referee’s perspective.

A head-mounted RefCam has also been introduced in the German top flight this season, with match official Daniel Schlager wearing one during the 2-2 draw between Frankfurt and Wolfsburg in February.
