Renee Rapp was struggling with an eating disorder while playing Regina George on Broadway in Mean Girls the Musical — with comments from the show’s production team and fans making her feel worse about her body.
The 23-year-old blonde beauty, who recently lawyered up in order to be released from her Sex Lives Of College Girls contract, opened up to The Guardian about the negative comments she received during her time on Broadway.
‘[The production team on Mean Girls the musical] would say some vile f*****g things to me about my body,’ the Pretty Girls singer revealed.
According to the interview, the body-shaming was so bad Renee’s parents considered flying up to New York City to pull their daughter out of the show, for fear over her declining mental health at the time.
After originating the role of Regina in the Broadway production in 2019, the Everything to Everyone singer left the show a year later.

Staying candid about her mental health journey, the Jimmy Award winning beauty admitted, ‘Eating disorders don’t just go away and like, you’re healed, like: ‘Sorry, I can eat again, ha ha!’ It’s a lifelong thing.’
Having moved on since the Broadway show to star in the Max hit The Sex Lives of College Girls, the Talk Too Much songstress has looked back on her time in the show with a renewed sense of wisdom.
‘I still struggle with [my eating disorder], but at least my parents know that I’ve been taken out of environments that were really harmful to my sickness, which is awesome and a huge win,’ Renee said.
She added, ‘My generation and the generation that will follow mine is much more open – especially women, non-men, queer people…I do think I’ve been afforded more opportunities than women before me, men and queer women before me.’
The talented vocalist, who just released her debut studio album, Snow Angel, bluntly summed up her generation by saying, ‘This generation is still super mean to each other. But we are more outspoken – and give less of a f**k.’
Despite the drama she endured while starring on Broadway, Renee will reprise her role as Regina George in the film adaptation of Mean Girls the Musical.
The future film star opened up to US Weekly about how she felt about Tina Fey’s script for Mean Girls The Musical, saying, ‘A lot of it is different. Tina [Fey] is such a creative genius and such a creative freak, and her partner, Jeff Richmond, who does all of the music, is as well.’

Revealing that her ultimate career goal was to be an EGOT winner one day, Renee added that, ‘[Fey and Richmond] are so creative, and I really appreciate that they really try to work with young people and people that are of the current culture and what’s happening.’
She emphasized her appreciation for the co-creator’s willingness to listen to people her age — ‘They’re very collaborative and really amazing. So some things are different, some things are the same.’
As for how she responds to people who hurt her feelings, the songstress said, ‘I have a very amazing mother and father who really, really, really just raised me to, like, be a very strong individual when it comes to, like, if someone doesn’t treat me with respect.’
‘It’s no bad blood, but I’m always gonna look out for myself. So I actually don’t really talk to people that hurt my feelings,’ the Colorado singer added.
