Rasmus Hojlund’s younger brother Emil scored against Manchester United on Wednesday, just hours before Erik ten Hag’s side took on FC Copenhagen in Denmark.

18-year-old Emil is twins with his brother Oscar, both of whom still play for Copenhagen, while the eldest brother, Rasmus, left for Atalanta two years ago before moving to Old Trafford in the summer.

United need a win in Denmark on Tuesday night to keep their Champions League ambitions on track, but their youth team played Copenhagen in an Under 19 match before the two first-team clashes.

Rasmus will be hoping to emulate his younger brother’s goalscoring feat when he walks into his former club’s home after Emil scored a crucial goal for Copenhagen earlier in the day.

Emil scored from the penalty spot after United took a two-goal lead against Copenhagen thanks to goals from Ethan Williams and Ethan Wheatley.

A final goal from Amin Chiakha salvaged a 2-2 injury-time draw for the Danish side, but United supporters will be hoping their senior team can go one step further later tonight.

Hojlund has scored just three goals since his £72million move to Man United in every goal in the Champions League, but has failed to find the back of the net in the Premier League so far.

His recent performances have been criticised, but United boss Ten Hag has backed the 20-year-old to score more often.

‘He has already scored three goals in the Champions League, which is very good for an integration period.

‘I think that as a team we can have better possession of the ball, so that we can create more and better chances and that also gives our attacking players more opportunities to score.

‘What we need to work on is a stable starting XI or at least twelve or thirteen players, and then the routines will be better and we will create better chances.

‘But as I said, socially I think he is very well integrated into the team and into the club.

‘From a football perspective he has already scored three goals in the Champions League, which is a very good achievement and from now on he has to pick that up and improve on it.

‘That’s the character of Rasmus. He wants to get better every day, so it’s nice to work with him, with such characters.’
