Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla are one of the most admired celebrity couples in Kenya largely because of how they have managed to steer clear of controversies and scandals that have bedevilled other marriages of famous people.
Many people have also marvelled at how Lulu and Rashid have managed to keep it together given the fact that they are all over each other’s faces for nearly 24 hours being that they live and work together.
Rashid and Lulu have been anchoring news together for the past five years, since July 22, 2018.
The mother of three opened up about the secret to a happy marriage while speaking to vloggers on the sideline of an event held to launch a new TV series ‘Zari’ on Tuesday night October 24, 2023.
Lulu emphasized that friendship between couples is key to a happy marriage.
“Munapaswa kuwa marafiki kwanza. I think tulicreate ile friendship kabla tuowane. Mimi kwangu Rashid ndio ni mume wangu but mume haiji kwanza, kwanza ni rafiki. I think namchukulia kama rafiki then mume ni baadaye,” she said.
The Swahili news anchor additionally underscored the importance of problem-solving in marriage.
“Kukosana kuko, binadamu mgani hawakosani? Kila mtu wanakosana but mukikosana si lazima muonyeshe kila mtu mumekosana. And there is a way you can solve your problem as well bila dunia nzima kujua,” Lulu Hassan said.
She heaped praise on her husband for being wise and making sure they resolved all issues before retiring to bed.
“Kitu mi nafurahia ni kwamba nko na bwana ambaye ni ukimwona anakaa mdogo lakini mazungumzo yake walai utadhani unaongea na mtu ambaye mtu ako na miaka sitini. He is very wise. Ni yule mtu ambaye hawezi kubali tulale na makasiriko. We need to talk ata kama unajifanya wewe uko na matantrums and what you will have to talk before mulale.“
Lulu further revealed that Rashid came into her life when she had just lost her mother and that he offered her a shoulder to lean on before love came at a later stage.
She added that they nurtured their love and 15 years after they got married they are still happily driving into the sunset together.
“Rashid alikuja kwa maisha yangu nikiwa na wakiti mgumu sana by the way. Hio ni time mama yangu alikua amepass. Nlikua nimekuja Nairobi kutafuta kazi. I was a receptionist by the way hapo Kilimani. Niliacha kazi Radio Salaam, nilikua radio presenter. Rashid akapata kazi Radio Salaam, I went back to Radio Salaam after mom amepita. Rashid alikuja kama rafiki kwanza. Unajua ile time umefiwa you need a shoulder to lean on and stuff, hivyo ndo niliona Rashid. Niliona huyu ni kama baba mwenye nlikua sina kwa familia. Pole pole tu ikamia ikawa mapenzi tuko hapa sahi tuko na watoto watatu, I think ni 15 years sahi marriage,” she said.
In her parting shot, Lulu Hassan insisted that Rashid Abdalla is a good husband and implored him to continue being good to her.
“Rashid ni bwana mzuri, ni rafiki mzuri. Sikumbuki ata ile wakati tuligombana mbaya mbaya. Sijakumbuka ati tumeteteshana. So aendelee hivyo hivyo,” she said.
