A clip has emerged on social media that appears to explain the reason why PSG star Kylian Mbappe was substituted at half-time against Monaco on Friday.

The attacker will leave the French team on a free transfer this summer and join Real Madrid after a seven-year love-hate relationship with his current team.

After signing a new contract at the end of the 2021/2022 season, Mbappe had regularly expressed frustration over some goings-on at the club and was begged by club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi not to leave for free.

However, that will almost certainly be the case in the summer and Mbappe left his current teammates behind in the Ligue 1 match, with the score 0-0 at half-time.

A highlight of his 45-minute cameo showed why PSG boss Luis Enrique removed the Frenchman after he struggled in the first half.

Mbappé was deprived of the ball and lost his balance numerous times, making some questionable decisions to shoot when he had better options to forget in the half.

It was not the first time the 25-year-old had been substituted early under Luis Enrique, with the former World Cup winner leaving after 65 minutes in the draw against Rennes last week.

Mbappé came out of the dressing room after changing after the substitution on Friday evening.

Wearing all black, including a cap, he was followed by photographers as he stopped to talk to fans in attendance and even posed for a selfie.

The match ended 0-0 in a fairly even match in terms of chances, despite the visitors’ dominant ball possession.

About the change, Enrique said: ‘I have been in football for a long time, you have to know that everything is important at these types of clubs. Sooner or later we will play without Mbappé, we have to get used to that.’

Enrique had hinted before the match that PSG would be a better side without Mbappe next year as they look to finally put the long-running distraction surrounding his future behind them.

“I know that if everything goes well, we will have a better team from all perspectives next season,” Enrique said. ‘Offensive, defensive, tactical. I do not doubt it.’
