Police nab man transporting 146kg of bhang in Kisii

Police have arrested one suspect and impounded 146 kilogrammes of bhang on transit along the Kisii-Migori highway.

According to the police report, a suspect by the name Collins Otieno was nabbed in the car chase incident on Sunday, July 7, 2024, alongside a reflective motor vehicle number plate of the number KDL 841X.

The police who were acting on a tip-off had set up a roadblock at the Iyabe-Bomokara area where they intercepted the Toyota Land Cruiser TX of registration number KDG 508E together with its two occupants.

The driver sped off in an attempt to get away from the police officers who had begun conducting a search on the vehicle, prompting a high-speed car chase.

The chase would not last for long as the getaway car lost control and got stuck in a ditch, leading to the arrest of one of the occupants, 42-year-old Collins Otieno, while the driver managed to vanish into the nearby thickets.

Six sacks of bhang stashed inside the car were recovered alongside another motor vehicle number plate kept inside a carrier bag.

The impounded vehicle and bhang are being held at Kisii Central police station awaiting the arraignment of the suspect.

“The suspect was escorted to Suneka Police Station for further processing, while the seized narcotics and the motor vehicle were detained at Kisii Central Police Station as exhibits,” police said.

Police have intensified their search for the escapee driver.
