The Southern Halal Expo & Tourism fair is currently taking place in Phuket, aiming to revitalise local tourism and enhance the incomes of local families while enhancing a sense of community for Muslims.

Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat officiated the opening ceremony at the Robinson Lifestyle Shopping Center in Thalang yesterday. The event, organised by the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association in collaboration with the Phuket Muslim Friendly Club, is designed to boost tourism and local income ahead of Eid al-Adha.

Sophon underscored the event’s importance in bolstering the region’s tourism sector. The initiative, spearheaded by the President of the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association, Nuanchan Samart Khumban, drew a significant crowd, according to an official report.

The expo has garnered considerable support from several key organisations, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office, the Phuket Tourism Industry Council, and Phuket Rajabhat University. This collaborative effort aims to attract Muslim tourists during the low season and ensure income distribution among local vendors.

Visitors have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of Halal foods, beverages, and Muslim clothing, all in anticipation of Eid al-Adha, which will be observed on Monday. The fair is set to run until Saturday, reported the Phuket News.

The expo’s emphasis on Halal products is particularly significant as it aligns with the dietary laws observed by Muslim tourists, making it a crucial factor in attracting this demographic. Vendors are showcasing an array of products, providing a platform for local businesses to thrive.
