The popular tourist destination of Phuket is on course to become a low-carbon green city, thanks to a recent collaboration between Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) and the Federation of Thai Industries Phuket (FTI Phuket). Both organisations have agreed to make this transformation a reality, and Governor Sophon Suwannarat witnessed their commitment at an event held on February 17.

The vision for this project, as expressed by EA’s CEO Somphote Ahunai, is to position Phuket as a world-class eco-tourism destination. The plan involves engaging all sectors in the application of the green business platform, which aims to accelerate Thailand’s progress towards achieving carbon neutrality, reported Phuket News.

EA’s partnership with FTI Phuket is centred around the initiative of Phuket as a green island, low carbon city. The objective is to stimulate the expansion and growth of tourism and other industries in Phuket while prioritising creating a sustainable environment that appeals to international tourists.

Phuket, with its renowned status as a tourist hub, is considered an ideal candidate for EA’s efforts to aid Thailand’s journey towards carbon neutrality. As such, Phuket has been chosen as the first province to receive comprehensive support from EA in pursuing carbon neutrality.

To realise the vision of Phuket as a green island and a low carbon city, EA has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the public sector, private sector, and FTI Phuket. The collaboration will focus on investing in green logistics and green electricity on the island.

Within the year, EA plans to launch several carbon-neutral projects, with the backing of Phuket’s public and private sectors, to create a positive environmental impact. The ambition is to establish green travelling on a green island.

In addition, EA plans to replicate the green business platform developed in Phuket in other provinces, with the ultimate goal of positioning Thailand as a global leader in achieving carbon-neutral status ahead of schedule.

In his closing remarks, Somphote reiterated EA’s commitment to transforming Phuket into a green island and a low carbon city. He emphasised the importance of collaboration with the public and private sectors and the Federation of Thai Industries Phuket in all aspects of green logistics and green electricity in Phuket.
