Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has joined other Kenyans in demanding accountability following the retrieval of mutilated bodies at the Kware dumping site in Mukuru slums, Nairobi.
In a statement on Saturday, July 13, 2024, the former Prime Minister insisted that the perpetrators of the heinous act must be brought to book.
“The perpetrators of these and other heinous acts must face the full force of the law immediately,” Raila stated.
“The people of Kenya demand accountability,” he added.
Raila expressed his pain noting that retrieved bodies paint a dark moment for the country. He however extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
“It’s a sad and dark moment for Kenya, what we have witnessed in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, pains me deeply. To the families who have lost loved ones, accept my deepest condolences,” the former Prime Minister stated.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to an urgent call from the public in the Villa area of Mukuru kwa Njenga following the discovery of six severely mutilated bodies.
DCI report indicated that all the bodies were female which were in different stages of decomposition. It added that the bodies were wrapped in nylon papers and reinforced with nylon ropes.
According to the report, the preliminary investigations established a similar mode of killing.
“The grim discovery was made at an abandoned quarry, currently filled with water and used as a dumpsite. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Embakasi quickly arrived at the scene, retrieving the bodies and documenting the area. Preliminary investigations suggest a similar mode of killing for the deceased. The bodies have been transported to the City Mortuary, where they await postmortem examinations,” a report signed by DCI Ibrahim Amin read in part.
“Homicide detectives and officers from the Forensics Division of the DCI are currently analyzing samples to identify the bodies. The area has been cordoned off and designated as a crime scene as the investigation continues,” it added.
The detectives have since appealed to the public to help uncover what transpired and help apprehend the suspects behind the heinous act.
“As we await the findings from the post-mortem and forensic examinations, the DCI appeals to the public to cooperate with the authorities as investigations continue.”
