Patrick and Brittany Mahomes go wild during Kansas City Current’s opening day win as 16-year-old debutant Alex Pfeiffer scores in first NWSL game

Patrick and Brittany Mahomes went wild in the CPKC Stadium crowd on Saturday as the Kansas City Current opened their NWSL season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Portland Thorns.

It was the grand opening of the stadium, which was built exclusively for the Current, and team investors Patrick and Brittany were in the stands after becoming involved with the club last year.

The couple could be seen jumping up and down as the home team eventually jumped to a 5-1 lead.

The team’s fifth and final goal came via 16-year-old rookie Alex Pfeiffer, who scored a left-footed shot in the 68th minute.

Things got tough from there as Portland cut the lead to 5-4, but KC held on for the win in their new stadium.

U.S. Women’s National Team star Sophia Smith finished the match with two goals for the visitors.

Before kickoff, Patrick and Brittany were handed a microphone and addressed the crowd.

“This is history, this is incredible, and for you to stand up for these women and their own stadium is amazing,” Brittany said.

Patrick, meanwhile, led a “Let’s go KC, baby!” singing to stir up the crowd.

The couple also took center stage at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, alongside current Chairman and CEO Chris Long, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman.

Built at a cost of nearly $120 million on the banks of the Missouri River, CPKC Stadium represents one of the few facilities in the world built expressly for use by female athletes.

The stadium has 11,000 seats and season tickets have been sold out for months.

Demand for single-match seats is so high that some fans are already wondering when the stadium will expand. It is designed so that seating can be added in the future.
