Burnley have confirmed the loan signing of striker David Datro Fofana from Chelsea with a sensational ET-inspired announcement video on social media.

As reported by MailsportTalks between the two clubs had gained momentum in recent days, with Fofana undergoing medical treatment and officially putting pen to paper.

He was recalled from his temporary spell with Union Berlin in the Bundesliga and flown to Britain, although he arrived too late to take part in yesterday’s draw against Luton.

His new club has built a reputation for their creative way of unveiling new signings, previously using references to Toy Story, Shrek and Gavin & Stacey.

The clip, used straight from the film itself, started with Elliot cycling through a misty forest, with ET in the front. The alien then sent the bike flying.

As the frame moved above the trees, Fofana’s face was briefly visible again.

The announcement ended with the bike flying in front of the moon, one of Steven Spielberg’s most memorable shots, before the club badge appeared on screen.

In another nod to the film, the post’s caption read: “I found it, it’s mine.”

Fofana told Burnley’s website: ‘It feels really good to be here, I’m really happy. I think this is a really good place for me to progress and it’s the perfect step for me.

‘It will be very good to work with Vincent Kompany. I’ve seen a few games already and I think this is the right place to take the next steps.

‘I have known Burnley for a long time, they have already played in the Premier League this season and were champions (of the Championship) last year.

“I’m looking forward to being part of this team now.”

Fofana’s first appearance will be against Manchester City on January 31.

Sevilla were also in the race but had to wait for Chelsea to cancel another move or sell one of the seven players occupying their limited loan spots.

Burnley, who are four points adrift of safety, have scored a paltry 21 goals in the Premier League this season, the second-lowest total in the entire top flight.
