Oakland was led by sharpshooter Jack Gohlke, who scored 32 points and made 10 three-pointers.

Kentucky has now won just one NCAA Tournament game in the last five seasons as John Calipari’s future leading the Wildcats increasingly comes into question.

The Golden Grizzlies will play the winner of Texas Tech vs. North Carolina State for a spot in the Sweet 16.

On Yahoo, 95.8 percent of groups picked Kentucky to beat Oakland, the top-picked 3-seed in the field.

Oakland head coach Greg Kampe has now won a game in the NCAA tournament for the first time.

Kampe has been the head coach at Oakland since 1984, when the school was still in Division II.

This was Oakland’s first time in the NCAA Tournament since 2011, earning a spot by winning the Horizon League.

Gohlke was one three-pointer away from tying the NCAA Tournament record for shots from beyond the arc made in a single game with 11.

Kentucky entered the game as 13.5-point favorites despite the Wildcats’ recent appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Calipari hasn’t led the Wildcats out of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019, a five-year stretch that some would find unacceptable for blue bloods like Kentucky.

Gohlke only arrived on the Oakland campus this season as a transfer from Division-II Hillsdale College.
