NYU student Yazmeen Deyhimi admits to tearing down posters of Israeli hostages and blames her exploits on ‘misplaced anger’ – as accomplice is ID’ed as Muslim Youth leader

An NYU student admitted to tearing down posters of Israeli hostages, blaming her exploits on “misplaced anger” as her accomplice was identified as a Muslim youth leader.

Yazmeen Deyhimi, a junior at NYU who once worked for the Anti-Defamation League and a self-described “activist,” admitted Monday that he tore down the hostage flyers plastered outside NYU’s Tisch Hall and threw them in the trash.

A now-viral video of their actions has sparked backlash, with many calling on the university to hold the three perpetrators accountable.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Deyhimi “apologized” and offered a bizarre explanation for the shameful act — claiming she was struggling to find her place as a “biracial brown woman” in these “very volatile” times.

“I have found it increasingly difficult to know my place as a biracial brown woman, especially in these very fluid times,” Deyhimi shared. “I felt increasingly frustrated with the times we are currently in, and this misplaced anger in actions that are not an accurate representation of who I am as a person.”

Deyhimi, a third-year student at NYU who once worked for the Anti-Defamation League and a self-described “activist,” confessed to tearing down the banners plastered outside NYU’s Tisch Hall and throwing them in the trash

“In this age of social media and digital footprints, these moments of anger are selfish and self-centered, and do not reflect who I am as a person or who my family raised me to be.”

The NYU junior claims to be “very passionate about the fight against racial profiling.”

She and two others were filmed Monday at Tisch Hall in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, clearing out a wall where students had plastered the faces of some of the hundreds of hostages Hamas had taken during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The now viral video shows the two women grinning as they hold the shattered images of young children taken hostage by terrorists after ripping them off the wall.

The pair were filmed by Students Supporting Israel, which is demanding that the perpetrators be deported.

One of Deyhimi’s accomplices was identified as an unnamed college freshman who is a member of the Muslim Youth Leadership Council at Advocates for Youth, according to the New York Post.

The third, a male student wearing a dark hoodie, has not yet been identified.

The images, shared on social media Monday evening, came as another student from another private university was charged with hate crimes for attacking a male Jewish student with a broomstick.

Maxwell Friedman, 19, who uses female pronouns, was a student at Columbia University until the incident last week.

She attacked an unidentified male student as he posted posters of the young children taken hostage by Hamas.

Upon arrival, they were told that the victim – identified only by the initials IA – was involved in a dispute that had turned physical.

Police say Friedman broke the 24-year-old man’s finger and verbally harassed him.

Friedman has now been charged with assault and harassment as a hate crime.

IA spoke to the Columbia Spectator, a student-run paper at the university.

He said one hand was bruised and his ring finger on the other hand was broken. After the altercation, he had no plans to return to campus anytime soon.

“This is because today I am an Israeli. Not me because I am myself,” IA told the newspaper.

“It’s because as an Israeli I face a certain kind of threat.”

The two incidents are the latest in a series at liberal, elite colleges in New York City and the country where students have overwhelmingly sided with Palestine since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.

Jewish students like those from NYU’s Students Supporting Israel say the continued sympathy for Palestine and the refusal by some to acknowledge Israel’s suffering makes them feel unsafe on campus.
