NRL star Sam Burgess spends time with brother Tom and his wife Tahlia after denying claims there is a 'family rift' between them

Sam and Tom Burgess got in some quality family time together on Saturday when the whole clan got together to celebrate a few family birthdays.

The NRL brothers seemed closer than ever despite rumours floating around there is a ‘family rift’ with Tom and his wife Tahlia Giumelli ‘on the outside’.

After his rugby star, 34, brother vehemently denied the claims, Tom, 31, was quick to post a series of happy family snaps to his Instagram.

The photos documented the fourth birthdays of his nieces Blainey and Sophie, and showed Tom and Tahlia, 30, cosying up to brothers Luke and George as well.

‘An awesome afternoon celebrating our cuzTwins [sic] Blainey and Sophie both turning 4 within a week of each other!’ Tom wrote in the caption.

‘Crazy and special moment when the Burgi [sic] get together,’ he finished the message.

The family gathering came just moments after Sam hit back at the sensational claims of a ‘family rift’ within the Burgess clan. 

The former Rabbitohs star denied reports of a feud between the tightknit family to The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.

The publication reported that Sam’s brother Tom and his model wife Tahlia had a ‘falling out’ with some members of the clan over ‘money’.

Tahlia is said to be ‘on the outer,’ despite Sam’s pregnant fiancée Lucy Graham, Luke’s partner Tori Carew and George’s ex-wife Joanna Burgess all being close and celebrating together at Lucy’s baby shower earlier this month.

The brothers – Sam, Luke, and twins Tom and George – all run their activewear brand 4B The Label together.

But Sam told the publication: ‘This is absolutely not the case. The Burgess family is closer than ever, it’s really disappointing to have to respond to this false rumour, it’s just not true.’

A source had told the publication: ‘I have no doubt everything will be fine soon, however right now there is tension.’

Tahlia doesn’t follow Lucy on Instagram and a source said that it was hard for her at first being welcomed into the Burgess family.

‘Luke and George gave her a pretty hard time, so did [matriarch] Julie. She did become fairly close to Julie at one stage, but I think the relationship has become strained,’ a source added.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the brothers and Tahlia for comment, in relation to this story. 

Sam has previously made headlines for his high-profile divorce from ex-wife Phoebe Burgess.

Last month, it was announced Sam, 34, was engaged to his pregnant partner Lucy.

The Rugby League player proposed to the stunning Leeds hairdresser, 33, during their babymoon in Fiji and are set to welcome their first baby together in three months.

The footy star is said to have told his family and Rabbitohs co-workers about his plans to pop the question before the couple left for the trip, according to The Courier Mail.

Earlier this year, Phoebe opened up about her split with Sam and said it was her two children who saved her from despair during the break-up.

‘That was the only solid thing that I held onto. That was it. They needed me,’ she said in an emotional episode of her Under the Gloss podcast.

Sam and Phoebe married in 2015, separated in late 2018 and resumed their relationship in early 2019.
