New Movies on Streaming: ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,’ + More

Not every new movie on VOD this week bears references to spiders, it’s just a coincidence that two of the titles we’re most looking forward to are arachnid-adjacent. First there’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is now streaming after spending the summer in theaters, and then there’s Cobweb, the unsettling thriller starring Lizzy Caplan as a mom hiding secrets from her son.

For something that has nothing to do with spiders, you can also check out the documentary Squaring The Circle, about the iconic design team of Storm Thorgerson and Po Powell, whose company, Hipgnosis, created the Dark Side of the Moon album cover, along with other unforgettable album covers like Wings’ Band on the Run. The documentary features interviews with Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, and many more rock legends.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

One of the biggest movies of the summer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, once again brings together all the Spider-People of the multiverse, but at the heart of the story is Gewn Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), who teams with with others from the Spider Society (including Miles Morales, who has infiltrated the secret headquarters of the Society) to eradicate a time-hopping villain known as the Spot (voiced by Jason Schwartzman). A word of warning, the movie ends on a cliffhanger, and part two’s release has been delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, with no date set.

Cobweb, which was written by Chris Thomas Devlin who also wrote the recent remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, stars Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr are Carol and Mark, the parents to a boy named Peter (Woody Norman). Peter is tormented at school by bullies and at home by a spooky voice that speaks to him through the wall, but his parents, who seem distant and creepy in their own right, don’t do anything to help. Quite the opposite: it seems like maybe they’re an even bigger problem than the creepy voice in the wall.
