Prosecutors are contemplating new charges against former police officer David Carrick after additional women came forward with allegations.
Carrick, previously a constable with the Met, was convicted in 2023 for 85 rapes and serious assaults. He abused his authority, telling one woman, “I am the law.”
Currently serving a life sentence with a minimum of 30 years for crimes against 12 women, Carrick’s case has seen more than 10 individuals provide new information to the police. Some have reported further sexual assaults, though the number willing to support formal charges remains unclear.
Hertfordshire Police stated, “A case file has been prepared to include the new allegations where the victims wished to proceed with a criminal investigation. This file has now been passed to the CPS for consideration for further charges to be brought against David Carrick. Specialist officers continue to support the new victims.”

The Met apologised after it was revealed that Carrick had been flagged in nine incidents, including allegations of rape, domestic violence, and burglary, before his eventual charging in 2021. Consequently, senior officers from the Met’s anti-corruption unit, which repeatedly cleared Carrick, are under investigation.
Among the 12 serving and former officers being investigated are a former superintendent, two detective chief inspectors, and a detective inspector, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Sentencing Carrick in February 2023, Justice Cheema-Grubb remarked that he acted as though “untouchable” and used his position to “monstrously advantage of women” over 17 years.
Outside the court, a woman who suffered rape, abuse, and control by Carrick criticised the police for their failure to stop him sooner. She expressed relief that he is no longer a threat, describing him as a “beast” who will now be confined. However, she condemned those responsible for his vetting, stating that while Carrick caused the harm, it was their failure to stop him despite multiple opportunities that allowed the abuse to continue.
