Nane Nane demos: Suspected phone thief seeks refuge in police lorry to escape from irate mob

A suspected phone snatcher was on Thursday morning forced to seek refuge in a police lorry to escape from a charged crowd baying for his b***d.

In a video, the suspected thief surrendered himself to the police and entered the lorry surrounded by a heavy contingent of police officers deployed ahead of the Nane Nane demonstrations.

Uko na bahati wewe (You are lucky),” one of the men in the crowd said.

The agitated crowd had pitched camp in Nairobi CBD in preparation for the much-anticipated Nane Nane protests expected countrywide.

Various activists including revolutionary artiste Kasmuel McOure have come forward to declare that the demos will be the mother of all protests ever witnessed in the country.

According to Kasmuel, the protests are aimed at airing grievances to the Kenya Kwanza government and to pile pressure on President William Ruto to implement changes highlighted by the youth.

“Tomorrow is a forward march in our annals of history, Nane Nane is going to be our final day in the streets. We want to live in a country that gives us land; we want to live in a country that educates us; we want to live in a country where children who will not die from natural diseases will go to the streets because the Kenya Kwanza regime has taken everything we had. We have elucidated very well what our demands have been,” he said.

Kasmuel additionally pointed out that attempts to interfere with the demos will not be allowed, he particularly stated that unidentified police who attempt to abduct or h****s individuals will be viewed as robbers and will be dealt with accordingly.

“If we see an unidentified man in civilian clothing riding in government vehicles that have obfuscated apologies, we shall treat them as robbers, thieves and terrorisers. I want to assure all Kenyans that we have not gathered here today in vain. We assure Kenyans that we will not see those madmen on the streets,” he said.

Spearheaded by the country’s youth, the demonstrations have undergone a metamorphosis from the initial Anti-Finance Bill protests and subsequently yielded significant results including the disbandment of the cabinet, and slashing of budgets in various offices among others.

However, despite this, the youth, stand unbowed and vow to continue piling pressure on the Ruto-led regime to seek further changes and the president’s resignation.
