Republican Rep. Nancy Mace has accused George Stephanopoulos of “shaming” and “bullying” her as the ABC anchor tried to pressure her about why she supported former President Donald Trump after he was found liable for sexual assault.
Mace, RS.C., received a message of support from Trump himself this weekend.
“You are trying to shame me because of my political choice,” Mace said on ABC on Sunday. ‘It was not a criminal court. This was a civil court and anyway she was joking about the verdict and what she was going to do with all that money. I find that insulting.’
The congresswoman continued, “As a rape victim who has been shamed for years for her rape. You’re trying to shame me again.’
Mace was raped when she was 16 years old and says this drives her to be an advocate for women’s issues.

“You watched the dueling rallies yesterday, in Georgia. Laken Riley’s family was with Donald Trump. They were not the same man yesterday with Joe Biden, who apologized for calling her killer an illegal who was illegal. And here you are trying to shame a rape victim. I think it’s disgusting.’
‘You keep saying I’m a disgrace to you. What does a question about a presidential candidate say…’ Stephanopoulos said. “You’re asking a rape victim,” Mace interrupted.
The clip sparked backlash for Stephanopoulos on social media, but ABC is standing by him. “George did his job by asking meaningful questions that are relevant to our viewers,” an ABC spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
Trump was ordered to pay $83.3 million for defamation after publicly denying in 1996 that he sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll in a department store dressing room.
Jurors had deliberated less than three hours after a two-week civil trial in which the former president testified for just three minutes.
The case focused on comments Trump made about Carroll in 2019 after she accused him of assaulting her in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman store in New York nearly three decades ago.
In May, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse.

On Saturday, Trump gave Mace a show of support for Truth Social.

But in 2016, she was blacklisted from his campaign events, according to three sources involved with Trump’s campaign in South Carolina at the time.
“She wasn’t asked to stay because everyone thought she was just kind of there — causing more drama than was valuable to have around,” said a source who worked on the Trump campaign in South Carolina in 2016.
As another former senior Trump aide said of the primaries and 2016 campaign, “In the beginning, we didn’t always hire the best people, but who was willing to work for us.”
The congresswoman was furious that she was not asked back to help with the 2016 general election, the staffer said.
She was known to “drive around to campaign fundraisers Trump was doing in the region, and push her way to the photo line to tell (Trump) that if he didn’t hire her back, he would lose South Carolina in the general.” election for Hillary Clinton.”
“It got to the point where she literally had to be blacklisted from Trump campaign events across the country,” the Trump campaign staffer said.
“An email had to go out to the finance and political staff saying, ‘Nancy Mace should not be allowed to attend future events.’
“She was absolutely blacklisted from campaigns,” said a second source involved with Trump’s campaign in South Carolina that year.
The source confirmed that Trump’s campaign team had a “list of people who couldn’t make it to the events and had to be kept out of the events because they are causing problems.”
Mace was banned from events in the area in August or September 2016, the sources said.
“She was despised by most of the campaign staff, who couldn’t stand her. They didn’t trust her. She undermined people. She lied,” said a source involved.
But the Trump world has apparently forgotten the grievances of the past.
Mace, who once said she wanted to be beaten against Jan. 6 rioters so she could be the face of “anti-Trump,” made an about-face in January and supported Trump over her longtime friend Nikki Haley.

At a rally in South Carolina that year, Trump called Mace “crazy” and a “terrible person.”
In the months since she was one of eight Republicans to vote to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Mace’s office descended into chaos.
She had complete employee turnover, with nine employees leaving her Capitol Hill office over the course of a few months, citing a toxic environment.
Her former boss Dan Hanlon also launched a primary against her and several former Mace staffers are advising Hanlon on his campaign.
Another area Republican — Catherine Templeton — jumped into the heated race Monday.
“South Carolina needs a conservative they can trust. Someone who wants to make more money than fame and someone who won’t flop for fame,” she wrote on X.
