A tragic accident occurred this morning when a 17 year old male motorcyclist was killed and his girlfriend critically injured after their motorcycle crashed into a stationary pickup truck in Samut Prakan.
The incident took place around 2.30am this morning near the entrance to the Samut Prakan Hospital on Suk Sawat Road, in the Pak Klong Bang Pla Kot subdistrict of Phra Samut Chedi district, Samut Prakan province.
A Toyota Vigo pickup truck with license plate number 8302 from Ang Thong was parked by the roadside, its rear end slightly damaged from the impact. Nearby, a Honda Click motorcycle, license plate 9กล6776 from Bangkok, lay overturned on the road, its front end completely wrecked.
The young motorcyclist, known by the pseudonym A, a second-year marketing student at a local technology college, died at the scene. His body, dressed in a blue round-neck shirt, black shorts, and flip-flops, was found facedown next to the footpath.
The 18 year old girlfriend of the deceased, identified by the pseudonym B, was rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. Witnesses recalled seeing the couple playfully interacting before the crash. Kittipong, a 60 year old eyewitness, noted that he saw the couple riding the motorcycle at a high speed and playfully teasing each other just moments before the accident occurred.
A local food vendor recounted that the young couple had ordered a box of fried rice from her stall. They had a normal conversation and left on their motorcycle after picking up their order, only for the vendor to later learn about the tragic accident.
B, still in a critical state, relayed that they were on their way to visit her brother after picking up the fried rice, intending to eat it back home. She had no recollection of the accident and only regained consciousness on the hospital bed, reported KhaoSod.
The police have recorded the incident and taken photographs at the scene. The body of A has been sent to the forensic institute for an autopsy, while B and the driver of the pickup truck will be further questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
