Political activist Morara Kebaso, 28, is asking the public for help after surviving a hit-and-run accident on the night of September 20.

Kebaso, a businessman and advocate for government accountability, was traveling from Tharaka Nithi to Nairobi when an allegedly intoxicated driver swerved into his lane and collided with his vehicle.

Following the accident, Kebaso took to social media to share a photo of the man he believes caused the crash, seeking assistance in locating the driver. “Accidents happen. Ni hali ya maisha (It’s part of life),” Kebaso wrote in his post. “But if the driver is genuine, he should come forward and resolve this. If he runs, it starts to look suspicious.”

Kebaso expressed that while he is not seeking revenge, he needs clarity on the situation, especially as the incident has heightened his concerns for his safety. This fear stems not only from the crash but also from previous unsettling events. Weeks before the accident, Kebaso noticed an unregistered double cabin truck parked outside his home in the early hours during the Nane Nane march. The owners of the vehicle were unknown to him, further raising his suspicions.

Kebaso’s public role in investigating stalled government projects has made him a target of criticism, and his family has grown increasingly concerned about his safety. The activist has been vocal about the misuse of funds meant for infrastructure development, and his latest investigation seems to have intensified these threats.

After the hit-and-run, Kebaso stated that he narrowly escaped death, adding, “I flew close to the sun, but I am alive for a reason. Now I know I am on a clock.” His post has attracted widespread attention online, with many urging the driver to come forward and settle the matter.

Kebaso reiterated that while he understands accidents happen, the driver fleeing the scene is troubling and raises questions about the true nature of the incident. “If the driver is innocent, there’s no reason to hide,” he said. “I’m ready to resolve this peacefully, but I need to know the truth.”
