Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna has strict rules about who can visit the stricken Formula 1 legend, according to his ex-Ferrari teammate.

It has been almost ten years since the seven-time Formula 1 champion suffered serious head injuries while skiing in the French resort of Meribel on December 29, 2013.

The condition of Schumacher, who was put into an induced coma and underwent several operations, has since been shrouded in mystery, with only brief updates from his inner circle.

This week his brother revealed that the German may never fully recover after the horrific accident that ‘changed our family’ – and now a former Ferrari team-mate of Schumacher has shed further light on the situation.

‘The family wants to maintain some kind of secrecy about this and I respect their will.

Badoer – one of the people allowed to visit – added: ‘They are all doing this for Michael’s good.’

Schumacher was brought out of the coma early the following year but has not been seen in public since and there have been few updates on his well-being.

Former Ferrari and FIA chief Jean Todt said Schumacher “is just not the Michael he was, he is different” in an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe earlier this month.

Wife Corinna is a fierce protector of Schumacher’s privacy and has been close to his side for the past decade, but she is now trying to move on with life – according to another of the former racer’s old teammate, Johnny Herbert. .

‘She [Corinna] has said they are trying to move on as a family as Michael would have wanted,” he said.

‘They go on with their lives, but private also means private. It would be great to have him back.”

Corinna and Schumacher married in 1995 and the couple have two children together – a daughter Gina-Maria and son Mick – who has followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an F1 driver.

It came after Schumacher’s brother Ralf admitted his condition may never improve, while speaking about the impact of the accident on the family.

“I miss the Michael of the past,” he said. ‘Life is unfair from time to time.

‘Michael has been very lucky all his life. But then there was that tragic accident.’

The 48-year-old entrepreneur and expert added: ‘Fortunately, advanced medical science offers many opportunities. However, nothing is as it was anymore.’
