Megan Thee Stallion was going to do her part to “end extreme poverty” worldwide — but then she got a better offer.
Page Six hears that the rapper was scheduled to headline this weekend’s Global Citizen Festival in NYC’s Central Park, but dropped out because Beyoncé invited her to perform a single song in Houston, Tex., instead.
“Eleven days before she was due to headline, Megan Thee Stallion has pulled out of Global Citizen Festival 2023 due to a scheduling conflict,” Pitchfork reported on Sept. 12, citing an extremely low-key tweet from the festival, saying: “Hi there — due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, Megan Thee Stallion will no longer be available to perform at the 2023 Global Citizen Festival.”
Billboard reached out to the “WAP” rapper’s team for comment at the time, but didn’t hear back.
But sources tell Page Six that the “unforeseen scheduling conflict” was actually a brand new offer to perform with Queen Bey in their shared home state of Texas.
Meanwhile, a source close to the rapper pinned it on the underlings, telling us it was caused by “an inadvertent duplicate scheduling by her team.” Savage, indeed.
Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” tour arrives in Houston on Saturday for a two-night stand at the NRG Stadium.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Lauryn Hill and Jung Kook are now at the top of the bill for New York’s 11th installment of the the famed Global Citizen festival, which makes attendees “earn” their tickets by “taking action” on global problems.
It’ll also stream on Amazon, Apple, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
Beyoncé headlined the event herself in 2015, as well as GC’s Johannesburg concert in 2018. Megan has yet to make it to the stage.
Global Citizen didn’t get back to us, and a rep for Megan declined to comment.
