A number of Power League football pitches in Nottingham have been completely submerged by heavy flooding in the wake of Storm Henk – much to the amusement of social media users.
Thursday night’s dramatic storm brought strong winds and heavy rainfall to large parts of Britain, and almost 750 flood warnings or warnings were issued across England and Wales.
As well as hundreds of houses suffering floor damage, villages were cut off and raw sewage was dumped into the river in Surrey and Berkshire by Thomas Water.
Few sporting venues experienced as much weather chaos as Nottingham Powerleague, whose five-a-side facilities were completely flooded after the nearby River Trent burst its banks.
The deluge left only the top of the clubhouse roof visible on Friday morning, and understandably the venue confirmed that bookings for the day had been universally cancelled.

Flooding was also a problem at a ground where football is played at a slightly higher level: Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.
Flooding was filmed along the legendary stadium on Friday afternoon, with some users questioning whether the area would be OK ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest.
The racing program has also been disrupted due to the flooding of Worcester’s racecourses due to heavy rain
Across the horse racing world, much of the weekend program has been disrupted, with Saturday’s race at Sandown and Sunday’s card at Chepstow axed.
Stratford, Worcester and Huntingdon racecourses have also been badly affected by flooding.
