MasterChef Australia fans are furious after noticing the show's massive format change

MasterChef Australia viewers have spotted a major flaw with the latest season of the Channel 10 reality cooking show.

Fans shared their disappointment in a MasterChef fan group on Facebook, pointing out that this season’s run doesn’t feature any MasterClass episodes.

MasterClass segments feature celebrity chefs teaming up with the judges to prepare a dish and display some of their tips for the contestants and viewers at home.

But season 15 hasn’t had any MasterClass episodes, and fans watching at home aren’t happy.

‘I love MasterChef and have been a devoted viewer for many years,’ someone wrote to the Facebook group.

‘My only disappointment with this season is we haven’t had any MasterClasses with the judges. I loved watching them in past seasons, especially with Jock [Zonfrillo] & Andy [Allen]. I wonder why this is?’

One viewer speculated that they dropped MasterClass from the line up to avoid a ratings drop mid-way through the season.

‘Recent years have focused on tightening things up so they avoid mid-season audience drop off as occurred almost every year,’ they said.

‘Since the MasterClasses are really for the cooks, maybe they just decided to cut some costs by not televising them,’ someone else suggested.

Another person added: ‘Things change but not sure whether for the better this season’.

However, one fan disagreed saying that they’re enjoying the show going ‘back to basics’.

‘There are no amazing cooks just all home cooks who make mistakes, a bit more like all us viewers,’ they said.

‘Great seeing how they are improving their skills as the show goes on. They are all way better than me so hats off to you all I am enjoying the show.’

It comes after MasterChef made another major change this season, dropping its iconic opening credits, much to the chagrin of viewers.

The competition previously began with footage of contestants being introduced, set to Katy Perry’s jaunty hit single Hot N Cold.

The American pop star’s song is such an iconic addition to the series that she even appeared as a guest judge back in 2020.

But the 2023 season ditched the track, with the each episode now opening with a recap before launching straight into the action.

Channel Ten removed the track because the licensing fees became too expensive, Yahoo Lifestyle claimed.

While international editions of MasterChef do not use the Katy Perry song in their intros, it became particularly beloved by Aussie audiences.

Fans watching at home were perplexed and disappointed by the decision, with some pointing out it was now harder to remember the names of the contestants.

‘I miss Katy Perry and contestants throwing food and using hibachis as an intro,’ one person complained on Twitter.

‘Um excuse me @masterchefau where is our Katy Perry into this season?!’ asked someone else.

‘Does Katy Perry even know Hot N Cold has been shafted? After all she’s a friend of the show,’ another wrote.

‘No Katy Perry intro. Ripped off,’ said another, while one more chimed in, ‘I miss Katy Perry’.

‘I’m still Hot under the collar N it leaves me absolutely Cold that #MasterChefAU can’t start with Katy Perry to get us in the mood,’ someone else said.

‘Without the Hot N Cold intro I actually can’t remember the names of most of the contestants, especially because they’re sick all the time. Bring back Katy Perry,’ another person tweeted.

Not everyone was missing Katy’s hit, with one person tweeting: ‘I’m so glad we don’t have to hear that dreadful Katy Perry song blasting out four times a week any more.’
