Margot Robbie's Barbie press tour wardrobe inspiration revealed

Margot Robbie the ultimate Barbie girl, living in a Barbie world. 

The Australian actress, 33, who plays the iconic doll in Greta Gerwig’s new Barbie film, has been wearing outfits inspired by or exact replicas of ensembles worn by the iconic doll while promoting the film worldwide.

From recreating the swimsuit worn by the first-ever Barbie doll, to putting a modern spin on the her more outlandish ensembles, we take a look inside Margot’s plastic fantastic press tour wardrobe.

For the film’s first media event n Beverly Hills last month, the Oscar-nominated actress wore a modern Barbie look, slipping into a pink and white polka dot Valentino minidress.

The front part of the halter-neck dress was cut-out and she completed her look with classic, white Manolo Blahnik heels.

The ensemble was inspired by the 2015 Pink & Fabulous Barbie doll. 

Next Margot wore a black-and-white Hervé Léger dress during a trip to Sydney’s Bondi Beach in her native Australia. 

The outfit was inspired by Barbie’s first ever outfit, a black-and-white striped swimsuit released by Mattel in 1959.

It wasn’t the first time fans had seen Margot wearing the frock, as she also wore it in a teaser trailer for the Barbie movie.

On the red carpet at the Barbie premiere in Seoul, South Korea, the actress wore another quintessentially pink Barbie look – a crystal-embellished frock by Versace.

Her outfit featured a figure-hugging bodice and frilled skirt, and she completed her look with darker pink crystal Versace handbag and glittering ruby ring.

The outfit was inspired by the 1985 Day to Night edition of Barbie.

Later at the Seoul premiere, the blonde changed into an outfit inspired by the classic 1985 Day to Night Barbie.  

Margot also attended a press conference in Seoul wearing a pink, jewel-encrusted blazer with a matching skirt, crop top, beret-style hat and quilted love-heart bag by Moschino. 

The striking look was inspired by Mattel’s Sparkling Pink Barbie from 1964.

Margot then travelled to Mexico for the country’s official Barbie premiere, wearing a look inspired by the Earring Magic Barbie toy, which was released in 1991.

She wore her blonde tresses parted on the side and styled in 90s waves. 

Margot also attended a photo call at the Four Seasons Hotel

While in Mexico, Margot also attended another media call wearing another doll-inspired look, this time sporting a multicoloured Pucci mini dress and pink stiletto heels. 

She accessorised her eye-catching frock with a quilted Chanel handbag and a pair of oversized neon pink Chanel earrings, and styled her long hair extensions down in crimped waves.

This outfit was reminiscent of of 1992’s Totally Hair Barbie.

For the first time in her tour, she opted not to wear pink on the red carpet and instead sported a striking black gown by Schiaparelli, inspired by the Solo in the Spotlight Barbie doll from 1960.

She accessorised with black opera gloves, black Manolo Blahnik peep toe heeled mules and diamond jewellery by Lorraine Schwartz.

Finally, Margot headed to the premiere in London, gracing the red carpet in a pink satin gown by Vivienne Westwood with an embroidered tulle trim, paired with white opera gloves and a pearl choker. 

The look was inspired by Mattel’s Enchanted Evening Barbie, released in 1996. 

The Barbie movie is set to land in Aussie theatres on July 21, with Margot leading the cast as the eponymous Barbie doll alongside her boyfriend Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, 42. 

Finally, Margot headed to the premiere in London, gracing the red carpet in a pink satin gown by Vivienne Westwood with an embroidered tulle trim, paired with white opera gloves and a pearl choker
