Authorities disclosed on Sunday that a man from Nevada, armed with a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and ammunition in his vehicle, was arrested at a security checkpoint outside Donald Trump’s rally in Southern California on Saturday night. The 49-year-old Las Vegas resident, who was driving a black SUV, was stopped by deputies in Coachella, east of Los Angeles. He was released the same night on $5,000 bail.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated the suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine. The department confirmed that the incident did not compromise the safety of former President Trump or the event attendees.
The suspect is due to appear in court on 2 January 2025, according to online records. Media members and VIP ticket holders navigated several intersections manned by state and local law enforcement before reaching a large, grassy area where vehicles were inspected by a K-9 officer. General ticket holders were directed to a separate location approximately three miles from the rally site and transported by bus.
