Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti, who was shot by senior police officer Samson Kipruto, urgently needs blood donations to save her life.
The shooting occurred at the Makadara Law Courts, where Kipruto was present during a hearing involving his wife Jennifer Wairimu. She was in court facing charges of obtaining KSh 2.9 million through false pretence and had been denied bail by Magistrate Kivuti.
Details of Makadara Magistrate Shooting Incident
Chief Justice Martha Koome stated that Samson Kipruto “forcibly entered court through the Magistate’s entrance”
The senior officer then shot at the judge. And his “intention was clearly to kill the magistrate.”
According to the Chief Justice, the perpertator “fired shots at Hon. Kivuti, injuring her severely on the chest and pelvic region.”
Additionally, “a court orderly and two other officers who tried to remove the Magistrate from the scene and secure the courtroom also sustained gunshot wounds.”
During the shootout, Samson Kipruto (the perpetrator), was shot dead.
Hospital and Blood Donation Appeal
Makadara Magistrate Monica Kivuti is currently admitted to Metropolitan Hospital Buruburu.
Former LSK vice president Carolyne Kamende urged Kenyans to donate blood. She shared this appeal on Facebook on June 13, highlighting the critical need for donations.
“Praying for Hon. Monica Kivuti and the injured officers. God is still on His throne, and healing is their portion. Let’s do this, good people. This is an urgent appeal for blood donations. Monica Kivuti is admitted at Metropolitan Hospital Buruburu. Your kindness, selflessness, and love are highly appreciated,” Kamende said.
Court Security Measures Tightened
Following the incident, CJ Koome ordered the immediate closure of the court till Monday, June 17.
She has also directed the introduction of new security measures including prohibiting entry of armed people into the court unless accredited security providers.
