Lyon manager Fabio Grosso has finally broken his silence on the injuries he suffered during an attack on the team bus en route to Marseille.

The two football clubs are well-known rivals in French football, and Lyon’s team bus was attacked by a barrage of stones and bricks on its way to the Velodrome stadium.

Speaking indoors a press conference on Friday Grosso said: “I am concerned because the lack of a sanction is unacceptable to me. I love incredible atmospheres like those in Marseille, I’m not afraid of that, but the absence of a sanction for what happened is something I cannot understand.

“I remain steadfast in this, it is very serious.”

During the incident, Lyon assistant coach Raffaele Longo was also injured, as well as five police officers and buses carrying Lyon fans were attacked.

The match was abandoned after the horrific violence, and the fallout continues when Lille said on Friday that their fans would no longer be allowed to travel to Marseille.

Nine arrests have reportedly been made, but the attack is unlikely to lead to disciplinary sanctions against nine-time French champions Marseille.

Because the attack takes place outside the Velodrome stadium, the responsibility for sanctions lies with the government and not the club.

The matter has since been taken over by a French competition committee responsible for planning the competitions, rather than the discipline committee.

Speaking about his injuries, Grosso insisted: “It doesn’t look like it, but I have strong shoulders, I don’t show it, but I’m still moved.

“When I get up in the morning, I brush my teeth and see my face, every day.”
