Luis Enrique believes he has been constantly ‘attacked’ and ‘maligned’ by the press throughout his managerial career, but has dismissed its relevance to him.

He had a challenging start to his reign at PSG and they barely made it past the Champions League group, but they are remarkably unbeaten in Ligue 1 since September.

Now PSG are in the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Barcelona 4-1 on Tuesday to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first leg of the last eight matches.

“It’s not that I don’t read much (the press), it’s zero,” Enrique said.

‘I have been a coach for more than ten years, I have been attacked, slandered, ignored or criticized. It’s no problem, I like it.’

Enrique can afford to be smug for now as PSG could be on course for a Treble.

In addition to their ten-point lead in Ligue 1 and the Champions League semi-final, they are looking forward to the Coupe de France final next month.

Expectations in Paris are high and even one defeat could lead to an investigation in which the manager and players are heavily criticized.

However, Enrique has experienced the greatest joy and pain as a manager and will take it all in his stride.

He won a Treble at Barcelona in 2014/5 as they played some fantastic football and recaptured the swagger they had had under Pep Guardiola.

In the three years he worked there, he rose to prominence in the management world, but by the end he was exhausted.

However, his three-year tenure in charge of Spain ended miserably when the country was eliminated in the last 16 by Morocco from the 2022 World Cup on penalties and he was replaced by the country’s U21 manager, Luis de la Fuente.
