‘Limuru events were carefully worked-out scheme to take away my life’ – Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the attacks witnessed in Limuru during a funeral service on Thursday, November 28, 2024, were aimed at eliminating him.

Then, chaos erupted as people were seen throwing chairs in the direction of Gachagua and his entourage before he and other leaders, including Kiambu County Senator Karungo Thang’wa and his Nyandarua counterpart, John Methu, left.

In an interview with a local TV station, Gachagua said the events were planned with the target of taking away his life.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God almighty for his grace and mercy that today I am here talking to you.

“The events of Limuru are very sad; a carefully worked-out scheme to take away my life was hatched and carried out. It started with the withdrawal of security officers around me,” Gachagua said on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Security withdrawal

The former Mathira Member of Parliament linked the events with the earlier withdrawal of security officers attached to him.

“It was hatched and carried out, and it started with the withdrawal of security officers around me. When we left Murang’a on Sunday (November 24), the few officers that were with me; an inspector of police, another inspector, and a corporal – were all called.

“One was transferred to Kathiani, another one was transferred to Likoni, and another one was recalled to SGBS, a unit with the Administration Police, and I was left without any officer,” he added.

He also said that the officers who were guarding his residence were withdrawn.

“The ones who used to guard this residence, the four of them, APs, had been withdrawn two weeks earlier when we left Embu. So I did not have anybody. I now see it clearly; the timing of withdrawal of all those officers was to expose me and create a stage for an attack on my person,” he concluded.

After the events, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said they are looking into the events and called on those who know the suspects to report to police stations.
