Lily has been using her nightly stage door exits to show off her designer wardrobe, changing out of her stage costume for glam ensembles.

Lily is currently starring in the West End production of The Pillowman and plays Katurian – a role which twenty years ago had been played by David Tennant.

The hitmaker’s character is brutally questioned by authorities after a spate of murders bear similarities to her short stories.

Speaking on This Morning about the show earlier this week, Lily said: ‘There’s a bit of violence in it. She’s an artist and writer and that’s something I relate to. She definitely pushes boundaries. There was a lot for me to tap into.’

Talking about how she likes the settled nature of starring in a theatre, Lily told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary: ‘I really like the routine of it all. I love being in one place. It’s nice not to get on a bus and move to the next destination.’

The role is a serious undertaking for Lily as she doesn’t leave the stage throughout the play’s entire duration.

She said: ‘There are so many lines. I started learning them in February. She reads out her stories. Five or six of her stories, I have to know off by heart.’

Steve Pemberton, who appears alongside Lily in the play as Tupolski, joined her on the sofa and gushed: ‘She’s absolutely smashing it. She carries the whole play because she never leaves the stage.’

Although she is enjoying her work, Lily said she has no desire for the play to receive an extended run as her children Ethel, 11, and Marnie, 10, who she shares with ex-husband Sam Cooper, are returning to school in September.

According to a synopsis on the play’s website, the black comedy ‘examines the role of the artist in society and asks what price do we pay for freedom of expression’.

It is written by Martin McDonagh, who has since become known for films including The Banshees Of Inisherin and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The Pillowman will run for a limited time only, finishing in early September.
