  • The Brazilian GP will take place next Sunday, in the country where Senna was born

Lewis Hamilton wore a bright green double leather outfit in tribute to boyhood hero Ayrton Senna as he arrived at the track ahead of the Brazilian GP this weekend.

The Mercedes driver wore a green and black jacket and also had a Brazilian flag on his pants in tribute to the legendary driver who inspired him as a child.

On the back of his jacket, Hamilton had a visualization of Senna wearing a helmet with his name in italics underneath.

Senna died in 1994 after crashing due to a car breakdown during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Italy.

Senna is one of the most famous figures in Formula 1 history, rivaling fellow legend Alain Prost and recording 41 race victories.

All three of his championships came while he was at McLaren, the team where Hamilton started his F1 career in 2007.

Hamilton has spoken in the past about the Brazilian’s influence on him, calling him ‘the driver who inspired me as a child’.

Twenty-five years after his death, Hamilton said, “I grew up watching videos of him. He is the most iconic driver we have ever had.

“He was the most iconic individual, a true leader and a master of his craft.”

In 2017, he was gifted a crash helmet that Senna wore when he equaled the icon’s total of 65 pole positions.

Hamilton is third in the F1 standings, but is only 20 points behind Sergio Perez and could overtake the Red Bull driver this weekend.

Mercedes is again second best after Red Bull, which won the constructors’ championship at a gallop and saw Max Verstappen take his third title after the Qatar GP sprint race.
