Kithure Kindiki has earned a new nickname from President William Ruto after taking the oath of office as the Deputy President.
Kindiki took his oath on Friday, November 1, 2024, at KICC in an event that was attended by the Head of State, the Chief Justice, among other top leadership in the country.
While welcoming his new deputy, Ruto fondly referred to the former Interior Cabinet Secretary as his younger brother and went on to nickname him ‘Abra K’.
“Professor, my young brother. Let me call you Abraham K or Abra K. Welcome to the service of this great nation, Kenya. You said that you’d serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya. Abra K, please serve the people of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya.
“My brother, serve the nation without bias or favouritism, so the people of Kenya see that we are united as one country, one people, bound by our constitutional duty,” Ruto said in the middle of his speech.
Ruto said that he believes that Kindiki is a capable leader, as he has demonstrated before.
“Professor Kindiki is a highly qualified and outstanding scholar, advocate, and public servant whose career has been defined by exemplary achievements that demonstrate his vision for positive change and commitment to high standards of efficiency in his duties,” he said.
Ruto called on his new deputy to serve the country with integrity and said he is proud of the law scholar.
“This moment calls for an individual who takes pride in a job well done, is selfless enough to reach out and mobilize the entirety of government towards delivering for Kenya, and is committed enough to serve professionally with loyalty and integrity.
“I’m proud to witness the swearing-in of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. He is a highly qualified and outstanding scholar, advocate, and public servant whose career has been defined by exemplary achievements that demonstrate his vision for positive change and commitment to high standards of efficiency in his duties,” the Head of State continued.
